This website illuminates my life and adventures. My longing for freedom has led me to over 2600 of the world’s 3978 provinces, to every country on earth and to the summit of the highest peak on each continent (thank heaven for good weather!). In my travels, I learned to respect the intelligence and ingenuity of people of all races and callings both past and present. Come see the world as I see it: as a peaceful place, full of nature and beauty. With the right spirit and intent, we can make our world a virtual Garden of Eden.

Papua New Guinea, Red Wigman, 1983 - When we arrived in Koroba, I was delighted to see that the villagers wore their wigs as part of their everyday dress. My good fortune had it that they were also more than willing to be photographed, unlike the men at the market in Tari. This man, whom I call the Red Wigman, was one of the first wigmen I ever photographed.
South Sandwich Is, Penguin Leaping On To Iceberg, 2006 - After nearly all the other penguins made it onto the iceberg, the penguin shown in mid-air attempted to leap five times its height on to the iceberg.
Taiwan, Taipei (TW-TPE) City Prov, Blossom On Branch, 2009 - I found this rather unusual. I have seen blossoms directly on tree trunks (see Seram, Maluku Province, Indonesia), but these are directly on the branch. I don't know what they are.

Japan, Nagano Prefecture, Dam Near Norikura, 2007 - I found this scene to be rather other-worldly, and indeed it might be: as the human race rushes to "progress" - as this dam evidences - it is interesting the things we create. This dam is no doubt useful, and it is certainly interesting architecuturally. But I found it a bit disconcerting that it also seems like it is out of an alien scene, something of the making of a fairy tale in which some great and unfortunate sinister force is at work.
DK, Greenland, On Way From Station Nord To Bliss Bugt, 2007, IMG_3267R - Before I went to Peary Land, in the north of Greenland, Dennis Schmitt told me that the scenery was otherworldly. This is particularly visible from the sky. From the ground it is not always clear what is a snow drift and what is frozen ocean.
