Namibia, Himba Girl, 2000 - The Himba were among the most amazing people I ever encountered in my travels. They touched me deeply in the same way as did the Melanesians. They are said to be one of the last truly nomadic people left in Africa. The women came out of the forest. They were gentle. I was told that they try to emulate their buffalo. They wore buffalo skin skirts and rubbed a reddish ochre into their skins.
