Australia, Cocos Keeling Island, Beach, 2001 - Diary entry June 29, 2001 - Today was a diving day.... We had to go back to near where we dived this morning, a disappointment to me. Oddly enough, a dive where there was nothing new to do was interesting, because I just lost myself getting close to a lion fish (at one point I let her fins touch into my hand as the tide moved her body). Karen, the guide, signaled that the lion fish was dangerous, and then I took particular notice of the spines on the back. Also, she pointed out two moray eels to me. In particular, the Moon Wrasse was unbelievably beautiful. I give it my award for best design: violet and yellow patterns, starting out more yellow on the back end, intermingled with violet, then transitioning to more violet and less yellow toward the front. then on the snout, there were luminescent pink/maroon lines running down irregularly. Just on one little part where the fin met the body were three distinct colors: the pink/maroon, the violet and the yellow. It seemed like a flag from an African country.
