This website illuminates my life and adventures. My longing for freedom has led me to over 2600 of the world’s 3978 provinces, to every country on earth and to the summit of the highest peak on each continent (thank heaven for good weather!). In my travels, I learned to respect the intelligence and ingenuity of people of all races and callings both past and present. Come see the world as I see it: as a peaceful place, full of nature and beauty. With the right spirit and intent, we can make our world a virtual Garden of Eden.

Papua New Guinea, Sam With New Raft, 1983 - Sam was a native of Ok Esai, a village near the Frieda River. I was told that the men of Ok Esai knew how to build rafts. True to their reputation, Sam went into the forest with an ax and rode up an hour or so later on this raft.
DK, Greenland, Kaffeklubben And Camp 2 Site After Losing Tent, 2007, IMG_3770 - The tent fell off the pack on the way to Camp 2. John Richardson and I left on our own. We spotted the rest of the group trying to put up the tent. Kaffeklubben Island, the official northermost point of land in the world appears in the distance as a hill, about one kilometer off the north coast of Greenland, which ends just beyond the tent.

Nepal, Katmandu, Dog In Bag, 1984 - During a return visit to Katmandu after a journey on foot from Jaipur to Agra, I became interested in the woman who's dog is in her bag. I never actually consummated my relationship with the woman, having been invited by Gabrielle on a trek in Tarke Gyang and subsequently falling in love with her.

Morocco, Burro And Berber Man, 1988 - I was about to abandon my attempt to climb Mount Toubkal when this man offered to help. He turned his burro around and we went to his family's home in a high mountain villlage. That night there was a wedding. The next day he helped me find a guide. I was eventually turned back by weather and poor equipment.
